Chanel’s Black Satin vs Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Iconoclast

Tuesday, 22 March, 2011

I had to do a comparison. Can you blame me?

When I put on Iconoclast, I had flashbacks of Black Satin nightmares. You know what I’m talking about – people selling bottles of this on eBay for exorbitant prices. Little did you know that waiting a few years down the line would yield a version of it with better shimmer and a better formula. Sometimes it pays to wait.

Come on over and see what I’m blabbing about today…The sun came out and is still out, so I’m going to make this brief because I want to get some swatching in before the rain starts in again!

Please pardon the tip wear on my pinkie and pointer finger. I’ve been wearing this color since Sunday and I had tip shrinkage and then tip wear. Ooops. I got overenthusiastic when I put it on and I didn’t give RBL’s formula enough time to dry.

Subtle shimmers in both the Chanel and RBL, but what makes them different is RBL’s is more pronounced. It is still subtle, but you can notice it moreso than you can in the Chanel color. You can see the difference when you make the picture full size. The full proper size is over 1100xsomeothernumber!

What you can’t see in this picture but you can in real life is that RBL is slightly paler, a very dark dark charcoal color as opposed to Chanel that is a flat out black with shimmer in it. Chanel’s almost always had problems with shimmer and I’m not not the first or last person to notice or point it out.

For me, the winner in this is Iconoclast by far. Don’t get me wrong, I love it when Chanel gets it right (see Paradoxal), but it is few and far between.
