Revlon – Rock and Chanel – Paradoxal

Thursday, 19 August, 2010

In my head, I honestly thought Paradoxal and Rock were alike. No, they’re not.

Revlon’s color, Rock, is part of their fall collection…I couldn’t get the glitter companion for it because it was sold out. I still love this purple, though. I’m sure the glitter would’ve rocked it.

Here is Rock on me and then a comparison with Paradoxal on my thumb.

Formula: Wonderful and fast drying. Opaque on the second coat. Pity their brush was all jacked up.

Chanel – Paradoxal

Friday, 6 August, 2010

Happy Friday! I had to end the week on a color that makes me happy…

I received this for my birthday after I played with it in Nordstrom a few weeks ago. I wanted this color. Seriously obsessed over this color. Thought I would DIE if I didn’t get this color. Was seriously going to maim the person closest to me if I didn’t get this color.

I got it and … this formula is perfect. Much better than previous Chanels. It didn’t bubble, it dried fast and…it’s so me. I’ve made no secret that my first true nail polish crush came about 15 years ago with Chanel’s Rouge Noir (aka Vamp) and Brown Sugar. I seriously could not get enough of those colors…and then they were discontinued.

Here we are again and I want to have a back up bottle of this shade…I am going to wear this until the bottle no longer has polish in it! This color is something that spoke to me and I hate the thought of spending $23 on a bottle of polish when I can purchase so many more brands that are historically better in their formulas than Chanel.

Ok, I’ll shut up and just show you the fabulousness of this color.

BB Couture For Men – Drive Shaft

Thursday, 5 August, 2010

This color looks a bit coppery, a bit peach, a bit pink and a bit bronze on me – all around awesome sauce. It does lean slightly towards the warmer side so I have to be careful about what I wear with this.

BB Couture has, once again, nailed it with their formula. Two applications and this didn’t bubble. If only all polishes could be like this. Polish brush isn’t jacked up like that-company-that-shall-not-be-named. 😉

BB Couture For Men – Universal Joint

Monday, 2 August, 2010

I am starting on yet another green tangent. I love this green. It’s rich and it’s brought to life even more with the shimmer running through it.

BB Couture got it right – this is fast drying and a dream to apply. Thank you, BB Couture – you make me happy.

I felt this color looked best in the shade, but in sunlight it also held up pretty well and didn’t look washed out or diluted.

It looked like a silver shimmer running through it in the top picture, but when in the sun it looks gold. I like that!

OPI – Vodka and Caviar and Catherine The Grape

Thursday, 29 July, 2010

This particular shade of red is one that I had been trying to obtain for some time. The Russian Collection is a bit hard to pull together and I’ve still yet to get my little hands on Kreme de la Kremlin, Cosmo Not Tonight Honey, St Petersburgundy and Ruble For Your Thoughts.

Now that I’ve got Vodka and Caviar, I really do love it. I know it looks like every other OPI red out there and face it – OPI has always gone overboard on red. I know I’m not the only one to complain about it. 😉

So here is OPI in their full, overkill red glory…which they’ve called Vodka and Caviar. Their other color that I love is Catherine the Grape.

Catherine the Grape is a very pretty purple with a plum/red shimmer running through it. It is definitely a gorgeous color! I’d say it’s one of the must haves of this collection.

Barielle – Lava Rock

Tuesday, 27 July, 2010

Ok, I admit to being heavy handed in the application of this polish, but it was really my fault. I was being clumsy and messed up my nails a few times and rather than start from scratch I kept piling on the color. You can see the wrinkled result under my fast drying top coat.

Despite my bad application this polish color was absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait until I actually put it on properly – 2 thin coats and a top coat!

Essie – Demure Vixen

Friday, 16 July, 2010

A nail polish fairy sent this to me the other day and I swooned…I haven’t been able to get my hands on Chanel’s Paradoxal and I know there is a huge difference between the two, but I was honestly hoping that this would kill any lemming moments I would have for Chanel. It didn’t. I am hoping that the nail polish fairy gods will hear my cry for Chanel Paradoxal soon…but I digress…

Demure Vixen is definitely demure, but in my opinion, no vixen. To me, vixen implies a steely sexy edge…this color doesn’t have it. This is one of those colors that I would call a lovely safe shade for work.

See below to understand what I mean.

Don’t get me wrong…this is a lovely shade. I adore this shade – it’s the lighter sister of  Sephora by OPI (aka $OPI)’s  Call Your Mother with a violet shimmer through it. This color was almost a sheer. This was it after three coats. As always, Essie’s formula was like butta!

China Glaze – Sex On The Beach

Thursday, 15 July, 2010

This swatch is for a reader who wanted me to do more sheers…so I’m starting now. 😀

I’ve had this color for ages and was never really motivated to try it. I thought it looked beautiful in the bottle but was worried it wouldn’t translate well into real life. I hate it when a polish does that and it so often happens with shades like these once on me.

This wasn’t a huge disappointment, but it did transfer almost perfectly – it’s a peach shimmer with a lovely gold undertone. Unfortunately, the shade is a bit too warm for me. 🙁

It’s a gorgeous color nonetheless – see below.

It looks so ho-hum boring in the shade, doesn’t it?

Sunlight brought this baby to life, showing flashes of peach, pink and gold shimmer. It’s very pretty, n’est-ce pas? I know I don’t have a color similar or even remotely close to this, so even though it’s a bit on the warm side for my skin I’m going to keep this!
