OPI – At Your Quebec and Call AND Rainforest

Monday, 5 April, 2010

Someone I know has had this color for a while when I had been on the hunt for it.  I finally was able to swatch it a few months ago but forgot to put it up. Then the person just gave me the bottle, citing they don’t really wear polish so what’s the point of having it around? So I grabbed it and ran before she could even change her mind. Thank you! 😀

At Your Quebec and Call is one of those greens that you can still find if you’re looking hard enough…on eBay. It’s not as pricey as OPI’s Rainforest. See the colors below!

A very pretty green-gold, don’t you think? And the shimmer through it is absolutely gorgeous.

I forgot how badly nail polish smelled before most lines went 3 Free. When I put this on, I nearly passed out from the fumes. It was, quite literally, that bad. Drying time on this made me want to gouge my eyes out. The fidgety girl in me was dying at the 30 minute mark…on the first coat. It wasn’t even a heavy application. A heavy application was near impossible because of the runny formula. I’m used to 3 Free and I’ll keep it that way. However, I’m glad I’ve got this bottle in my stash!

Sephora By OPI – aka $OPI

Lately I’ve been into green nail polish. It all started with Nubar’s Going Green Collection and I don’t see any signs of my current green fixation stopping any time soon. When shades of green like Leaf Him At The Altar keep coming out, how can I say no?

This is such a strong match for MAC’s Beyond Jealous, but I’ll have to do a side by side comparison…However, you’ll have to settle for the post that shows the picture. I actually prefer the formula in $OPI because it wasn’t difficult to work with.

Ahh…this color came out the same time as $OPI’s Metro Chic. So I’d say about Fall 2008. I didn’t purchase this until recently. I did, however, purchase Metro Chic the moment it came out because I love that whole mushroom-y, taupe-y color. This is the lighter, more spring version. Think youthful sister, if you will. While I prefer the edgier and darker Metro Chic, I won’t complain if this finds its way on to my fingertips.

Comparison swatches of Essie’s Shelter Island and OPI’s No Room For The Blues in different lighting.

WordPress does things a little differently than Blogger for images – you have to click the thumbnail here, it takes you to another page and you’ll have to click that image again to be able to see the original size.

Out of these two, I really love Shelter Island the best. I wear it whenever I can. However, you can’t really see the very subtle difference between the two here.

You can see the slight difference in the shade pic, but it’s the sunlight shot that really shows the difference between the two. However, it’s such a close call you can really get away with it. One is slightly deeper, the other…not so much. As I said, it’s subtle, but for me I definitely prefer the deeper shade, but they are both gorgeous, n’est-ce pas?

Two things:

1) click the thumbnail you want to see, then click the same thumbnail again after it’s taken you to another page

2) Please excuse the badly mangled cuticles and lack of moisturizing on them…OPI said don’t use a base coat, don’t use a top coat, don’t use any lotions, etc while wearing this. Blah, blah, blah. I followed it for the most part…except on a few where they said “NO BASE COATS!!!” I used one. Bite me.

For the most part, I won’t be saying anything really because the pics really do speak for themselves. 🙂

IMO, it looks best with a top coat…don’t you agree? It just makes the color so much prettier!

Again, I like it better with the top coat…it just brings out the prettiness of the color.

Hm. Jury’s out on this one for me.

OPI Holiday Collection 2009 – Holiday Wishes – Part II

Friday, 26 February, 2010

Found these on clearance…woo hoo! 🙂 Snagged ’em for a mere $1.25. Scha-weet!

I actually wore this color for a bit…it reminds me Chop-Sticking To My Story. I’ll put them next to each other and see. I do like this color and it actually didn’t look too bad on me, either.
I thought I’d like this color, but not so much. It’s all right, but I won’t go out of my way to find a reason to wear it. It’s a bit too much of a warm tone for my skin.

Red, red, red…

Saturday, 16 January, 2010

Maybe it’s because Valentine’s Day is approaching, though I am the most unromantic person for that ‘holiday’.  I used to have my swatches on Facebook, but I hated how images couldn’t be made bigger if you clicked on them…so I came to a blog. Anyway, here I am.

Maybe I’m in a red kind of mood because of Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland…I have that OPI Collection, by the way and will be swatching it soon…like I may cancel my Saturday plans and do my nails. Haha.

For now, here are two reds for you to peruse.

OPI’s A Oui Bit of Red – France Collection, Fall 2008 (and one day, I will swatch that dang collection of theirs, too…by far my most fave!); Taken outdoors in shade.

It’s a thin, temperamental creme…three applications and I still couldn’t get it right if my life depended on it. I am not a fan of shimmery nail polish and this has a faint shimmer in it to keep it from being another “dull, lifeless and everyone has this shade of red” red. I like this because you can do a vintage moon manicure with it. I’ve done that, but never took pics. I will have to do a fun post of it instead of just colors.

OPI’s A Oui Bit Of Red – France Collection, Fall 2008; Taken outdoors in direct sunlight.

You can see every sad, sad attempt at application here. Look at my nail peeping through in the middle finger. My nail is mocking me — “YOU FAILED AT PAINTING YOUR NAILS!!” Grrr…

You can see the slight shimmer running through here…

OPI’s Keys To My Karma – Spring 2008; India Collection; (and I have to swatch that collection, too! It’s been sitting in my nail polish box – it’s got some gorgeous, gorgeous colors!); Taken in shade

Another sneaky, sneaky formula. This was 3 applications. Also good to use for a moon manicure…

OPI’s Keys To My Karma – Spring 2008; India Collection; Taken in direct sunlight.

See my nail kind of peeking through on my ring finger? ARGH!!!

AAARGH! 3 applications. *mumbles*
