Face Stockholm 95

Wednesday, 21 September, 2011

Ok, I was hasty. I was so frustrated, but I found a solution – paint my nails quick. Say a prayer I don’t smudge them as I’m getting ready to take a swatch shot…et voilà! I no longer have hand wringing moments. Of course, I still can’t do a regular mani or wear color so my nails stay bare. Sad panda. This is the label shot of Face Stockholm 95.

IsaDora 705 Combat Khaki

Tuesday, 6 September, 2011

Clearly this combat shade of green was meant to be more a battle at the beach than actual warfare. It’s a hot hot shade of not quite sea foam green with a lovely undertone that keeps it edgy, yet feminine.

IsaDora 706 In The Army

Tuesday, 30 August, 2011

I remembered seeing IsaDora cosmetics in the golden days of yore – when Walgreens was cool, ya know? I never bought any of their stuff, but I remember some of their nail polish was cool…I still never bought any. I regret it to this day.

Fast forward to me roaming around Stockholm in KungsträdgÃ¥rden (the King’s Garden) and the Galleria Mall, finding a beauty store called Kicks and suddenly seeing this green called

IsaDora In The Army Label

Interesting. I bought that and another color. I’ll feature it that this week or next!

This time I knew that I couldn’t pass up IsaDora 706 In The Army. Plus, it was a very reasonable price (for Stockholm) so how could I say no?

Zoya – Gemma

Tuesday, 26 April, 2011

Gemma is part of Zoya’s Spring 2011 Intimate collection…and she’s quite a stunner! While I’ve seen this shade of green before, I haven’t seen it with a shimmer quite like this. I’m at the point with nail polish where I go, “Oh…that’s pretty. However, I’ve seen this before and I’ll put it at the bottom of my list.”

I almost did this to Gemma, but something about that shimmer called to me. I’m so glad I didn’t pass her up.

BB Couture – Glampyre and Overall Beauty – Baby Me

Monday, 25 April, 2011

I happened to catch a tweet from Kim at Overall Beauty about some samples. Like any girl out there, I’m a freak over samples. When I was in Paris and I’d go to Sephora, I’d totally live for the samples of shampoos, conditioners, face creams, etc they’d put in the bag when you’d purchase things. I’m so bummed the Sephora here in the US doesn’t do that, but the fact that we have Sephora at all is a good thing…

Anyway, Kim from Overall Beauty sent me this package and said I should get it in a few days…try the next day! All hail USPS that can haul butt like that. 😉

I literally squeed with glee when I opened the package: a full sized bottle of  a color that was created for a band called Saints of Ruin (www.saintsofruin.com) commemorating the release of their new album due out soon called Glampyre. Incidentally, that is also the color name of the polish, too! Their lead singer, Ruby Ruin, helped create this color that I love wearing. I’m a dark nail polish kind of gal. I googled them and they were described as a Bay Area goth band…and the long dead goth girl in me did a happy dance. I’m a huge supporter of all things Bay Area and especially if they’re good. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to their music, please give them a shot – you won’t be disappointed.

Zoya – Phoebe, Lolly and Mitzi – aka Mod Mattes

Zoya Lolly

*faints*

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted. Two weeks. In between sneezing fits thanks to the crazy weather changes, a sick husband and purchasing so much nail polish…I went into a tizzy.

I also wanted to give myself a tiny break because I was worried I was going to burn out. I don’t want to do that. I’m surprised at how many hits my blog gets despite not having many followers. If you have time and are not a follower in Google Friend Connect, I’d really appreciate it if you followed – just so I know. 🙂

Now…on to the polish. Where do I begin?

This is Zoya’s Mod Matte Summer 2011 collection.

The Good: I am slowly starting to like and appreciate colors like this. I know people want bright colors for summer. These colors are definitely eye catching and ones I would love to keep wearing, but…

The Bad: …the formula. Oh the FORMULA. *wrings hands* Lumpy, chalky, hard to manage…

The Ugly: …I hated that I could never get these colors to smooth out for me even after FOUR coats.

How about you be the judge after the jump?

Sinful Colors – San Francisco

Thursday, 24 March, 2011

I know San Francisco is usually associated with fog so I did scratch my head for a moment or two when I first saw this color. Why not gray and why this greenish-blue?! Then I happened to be cleaning out old pictures from when I used to live in outer Richmond in San Francisco (47th and Cabrillo, yo! ohh…and La Playa and Fulton). One picture happened to be a rare sunny day and the ocean was this…gorgeous greenish-blue.

That was my aha moment. While I won’t be publishing that picture of me on the beach anytime soon (it involves no make-up and me looking all around cray cray), I can offer you the shade from Sinful Colors called San Francisco!
