OPI – An Affair In Red Square

Friday, 24 September, 2010

I finally found this color amongst some other bottles I hadn’t sorted and organized…and it’s a pretty one, isn’t it? I still prefer cremes and I think this would’ve been a lot better had it not been for the shimmer. It’s a bit on the pink side and I’m fairly ok with that.

Formula was good, but the brush was jacked up. I took a picture of the brush, meaning to post it. I’ve decided that I will post pics from here on out of my OPI bottles with messed up brushes because I find it’s OPI who has the worst quality control when it comes to their brushes.

In the meantime, enjoy Red Nail Polish Friday! 🙂

L’oreal – Femme Noir

Friday, 17 September, 2010

Happy Friday! You know what that means – it’s Red Nail Polish Friday and this is an offering I have for you…

Part of L’oreal’s Fall 2010 Limited Edition Collection (I believe it’s part of Fashion Week, but I grabbed these off the display and ran before taking a picture).

Formula was easy to work with and dried quickly.

It’s a lovely dark red that looks vampy in the shade, but in the sunlight it shimmers beautifully. I did my best to capture the prettiness and I think I did a decent job. What do you think?

China Glaze – Riveter Rouge

Friday, 10 September, 2010

Hello and welcome to Red Nail Polish Friday.

Part of the China Glaze Vintage Vixen Fall 2010 collection, I found this frosty red very pretty. It was almost Christmas-y to me, but it was more towards a fall color of red, not that Merry red stuff. This has a slight blue undertone, but not enough to make it a true red. It’s a lovely rich color that I find will be on my toes quite often this fall.

Forumula was fast drying and opaque in record time.

China Glaze definitely nailed this one correctly.

Zoya – Kristi

Friday, 3 September, 2010

Last year Project Red was started in honor of our troops who are serving overseas. This is my version of Project Red – I’ll be showing a red nail polish every Friday until our troops come home.

Zoya’s Kristi is from Zoya’s Fall 2010 Collection, Wonderful. Kristi is a wonderful blue based red. Not quite true red and not blood, but a good mix of red, hint of orange and strong tinge of blue. This looked absolutely wonderful on me! I just may very well end up wearing this shade for the weekend…Hm…

BB Couture – Horned Devil

Tuesday, 3 August, 2010

I loved this color. In the bottle.

I complained about a color by China Glaze (Strawberry Fields) that aged me and freaked me out to no end because it really made me look like crazy old South Beach, FL, lady. This had a similar effect, but I felt it was Los Angeles, CA, old lady. I kid you not, I swear that this color brought out every single line and never-seen-before line out in my hands. My hands looked wrinkled. Decrepit. LEATHERY. Leathery. Seriously. How does that happen?

Pity the color sucked on me because application was flawless – it’s a jelly base flecked with fine silver glitter. The glitter isn’t so abundant that it overpowers the polish. It is distributed evenly with the brush strokes. I did two coats. See the pictures below!

I think the shade shot is much prettier than the sunlight. It got washed out. 🙁

OPI – Vodka and Caviar and Catherine The Grape

Thursday, 29 July, 2010

This particular shade of red is one that I had been trying to obtain for some time. The Russian Collection is a bit hard to pull together and I’ve still yet to get my little hands on Kreme de la Kremlin, Cosmo Not Tonight Honey, St Petersburgundy and Ruble For Your Thoughts.

Now that I’ve got Vodka and Caviar, I really do love it. I know it looks like every other OPI red out there and face it – OPI has always gone overboard on red. I know I’m not the only one to complain about it. 😉

So here is OPI in their full, overkill red glory…which they’ve called Vodka and Caviar. Their other color that I love is Catherine the Grape.

Catherine the Grape is a very pretty purple with a plum/red shimmer running through it. It is definitely a gorgeous color! I’d say it’s one of the must haves of this collection.

Chanel – Pirate

Tuesday, 13 July, 2010

This was found in my box of “Bathroom Junk” where I had also found Violette. I am doing my best to refrain from doing any pirate jokes. The name alone…really, I’m trying.

I shall focus on what a gorgeous red this is, even though it was a little hard to handle. It didn’t bubble like Violette (thank the heavens!) and it definitely dried faster as well. Unfortunately the color of the nail swatch you will see below has FOUR, yep 4, coats to achieve the color that matched the bottle. They were thin coats albeit because I was worried it was like Violette. No bubbles. Well, there were marginal bubbles, but not as bad as it could’ve been.

This is a gorgeous color, but I am sure there are dupes out there. It’s in my top 10 for favorite reds.

StrangeBeautiful Volume I

StrangeBeautiful – Red, Volume I

This shade of red is…flawless. I rarely wear red nail polish because…well, um. Because. I have no excuse now. Actually, let me clarify – I do wear red nail polish. Just not OPI. There we go. I’m a bit tired of OPI always having some shade of red in their collection. I was pleased that OPI didn’t have it in their Shrek Forever After or Flutter collections.

Jane Schub doesn’t give nail polish color names. Instead, she tends to tell you what her influences were when she produced the color. In this instance, it’s a red Valentine Typewriter. In case you do not know what she’s referencing, here is a link to it.

It’s a beautiful red. It’s shiny. It’s pretty and looks fabulous on me. Formula was great – quick drying and opaque. Two coats were needed. Woo hoo!

Enjoy.
