Difficult Formulas I've Used – Rescue Beauty Lounge and Sally Hansen

Sunday, 21 March, 2010

These were colors that people said were so cute – you must try them! and I did…much to my horror and chagrin. I actually did 4 coats of each of the polishes below before I called it a day.

Both were a bit like jelly – and it shows in the application for me. I’ve looked at other people’s swatches of these colors and am jealous that they’ve turned out so well. Maybe it was me. 🙁 Anyway, here they are.

How awful can this application have been on me?! To make it worse, I had grabbed the wrong top coat (I have 2 of the same, but I reserve one for dark colors and another for light colors) and now you can see the red from an old cold color I had worn a few days prior. I had so much trouble with this formula. I reached the 4th coat phase and said with much grace and dignity, “F*** it. I’m done.” To make matters worse, the formula took AGES to dry. 4 top coats later – and they weren’t even thick coats, fairly thin – they were barely dry enough to put the top coat on so I could photograph them. The formula was pretty sticky, too. ugh. I like sticky in my base coats, not my nail polish, ok?

This was another color I had issues with, but not as bad as I did with Rescue Beauty Lounge. This is a 3 coater…and it annoyed me, too. This color actually didn’t look bad on me either…despite it being a yellow. I admit to buying it purely for the name – Yellow Kitty. I kept thinking Hello Kitty and giggling to myself.

Rescue Beauty Lounge – Spring 2010

Friday, 19 March, 2010

In an odd way, I like this collection…Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Spring 2010 colors are based on Proenza Schouler’s spring 2010 collection – a surfer girl chic.

Pardon the ghetto manicure on the right hand. I’m not a leftie! 🙂 This shade sings to me – it’s not quite teal, but it’s such an awesome mix of grey thrown in for good measure. How can one NOT like it?

It looks like a sea grey…when I lived on the beach back in San Francisco, I often called this the “boo boo grey wave day”…

Oh man…it’s not quite coral red and when I saw this I thought it would be too warm for my skin tone. Oddly enough, it’s just enough on the cool side for me to carry it off.

I like 360 and Diddy Mow moreso than Bangin’. Formula was much better than in previous batches so I’m happy – it’s not thick nor does it take forever to dry. Only needed 2 coats per application.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Obligatory green!

Such prettiness. I think Zoya was able to do what OPI couldn’t – make a pretty matte that didn’t seem so dull and lifeless. Go on with your bad self, Zoya!

Now, something NOT green. 🙂

I spoke about Ginger & Liz, my new nail polish crush…and here is Trance.

I think it was supposed to be a holographic, but it’s not showing up here. In person…it is some serious wow factor. Definitely one of my faves! I have a few more bottles from Ginger & Liz and I’ve a feeling I’m going to be loving every single one of them.

Zoya Polish

Monday, 15 March, 2010

I keep looking at this color and thinking, it’s the sister to Midori! I’m going to have to do a comparison swatch…it’s darker, edgier with a lovely golden shimmer. It warms it up enough but doesn’t detract from the coolness of the color – if it had been too warm it would look like green pewp on me.

And no it’s not like Midori – my bad! Midori is lighter and more golden…but still gorgeous. 🙂

I was having China  Glaze flashbacks when I put this on. This is suspiciously close (at least in color and shimmer) to CG’s Lasso My HeartOops, compared swatches and I’m wrong. This is richer, fuller…much prettier. I definitely prefer Zoya’s take on this.

Note on the formula – these were 3 coaters for me. 2 looked ok, but 3 really showed the true beauty of these babies…and look ma — NO BUBBLES! It dried fast and smooth.

Will be doing more Zoya colors during the week because I ordered quite a few when we got our tax return. 😉

Barielle Swatches

Tuesday, 9 March, 2010

More swatches of Barielle swatches…absolutely gorgeous!

So I love this shade of blue…but I’m telling you, this copper glitter totally mars it. I think this color could’ve been much much prettier without that odd color of glitter thrown in, don’t you? IMO, this would’ve been the perfect shade of blue ever on the face of the earth…aside from that awful shade of copper. Then again, I guess there is a reason it’s called Falling Star.

Now this is an awesome shade of green…I love that it’s got a lovely shimmery sheen running through it. It keeps it on the cooler side of warm. I love it!

Random Essie Swatches

Thursday, 4 March, 2010

Some Essie Swatches I’ve been meaning to upload, but kept forgetting…until now! 🙂

I thought I was gonna love this color when I put it on me. Nerp. Nope. Didn’t like it one bit…NOT ONE BIT. It almost looks like I’ve got skittles on my fingers, doesn’t it? LOL

Not a bad shade of a pastel. It’s not too obnoxious, but it will do. 🙂 At least it doesn’t look like Skittles. 😀

This is my favorite of the three. I guess when it comes down to it, I like purple – even if it’s lavender.

Random China Glaze Swatches

Wednesday, 3 March, 2010

I found these random China Glaze swatches I had done…don’t know when, but it seems like it was a while ago. 🙂

China Glaze’s tribute to Audrey Hepburn. They made a Tiffany blue just for her. As some or most of you know, Tiffany’s holds the patent for the blue so you can only get close to replication, but not the actual blue…or green. Or whatever color it is.

Secret Peri-wink-le

Indoors, no Flash (Top) and Indoors with flash (bottom)

Oddly enough…I really liked this color. It is a true periwinkle. While this color never looks good on me in reality, in my head I say it looks fabulous and keep on wearing it. 😀

Lubu Heels

Indoors, no flash (top); Outdoors (bottom)

Not one of my favorite colors. I thought this was the ghetto cousin of Midnight In Moscow. Yea, I went there.

China Glaze – Fall 2008 – Rodeo Diva Collection

Wednesday, 24 February, 2010

I remember seeing this back in 2008, before leaving for India. I was so tempted to buy it, but didn’t. I really didn’t want to buy it, then try to lug it to India or worse yet, leave it behind. So I didn’t buy it.

The nail polish guy I go to here in AZ had these puppies on CLEARANCE for a mere dollar. HOLLA!!! I grabbed as many as I could, but sadly, not all colors are here. I’m not about to go and buy from an e-tailer because the colors I’m missing aren’t ones I think I really I want, anyway.

This was definitely one where I went, “I don’t like this color in the bottle, but boy do I love it on me!” It’s a super rich raspberry tone that’s broke up with a lovely frost.

I love green nail polish and this is no exception. I didn’t understand the fuss, now I do. Definitely one that I am happy to have in my collection!

Now this…this really stole my heart – can you see why? I swear it reminds me of my favorite colors from my junior high days. This color was flattering on my skin tone – definitely a keeper, too!

So the girl who loves dark nail polish (that’s me!) loved this, too…despite the faint shimmer running through this. This was such a deep dark eggplant kind of purple that I ended up liking the faint shimmer. It brought a kind of depth that I didn’t know I’d truly appreciate until I saw it on me.

A lovely ocean blue nail polish with a shimmer and and some subtle micro glitter thrown in for good measure…and what a difference that makes!

This is another eggplant-y shade that they had…but they threw in some warm gold micro glitter that really…really made this color seem slightly bronze-y and just a beautiful shade to have on your nails.

Ok, now this…this is the total surprise for me of the collection. Not quite a black nail polish, but the base was so dark a green it appeared black. Then they had put some shimmer to it that was gold. The result? A gorgeously mysterious dark green nail polish with some beautiful gold/bronze shimmer. A real gem!
