Orly – It’s Not Rocket Science

Wednesday, 25 August, 2010

Pretty green polish with lovely green and gold shimmer…see below!

Formula, once again, rocked it. It dried fast and was looking good after 2 very thin coats. While it’s not Space Cadet, I do like this as well…

Putting your mind at ease – this is not an image heavy post like Space Cadet or the recent NFU Oh I swatched. 😀

NFU Oh 56 and Finger Paints Harvest Hues

Tuesday, 24 August, 2010

I finally raided my stash of NFU Ohs and decided to swatch some more. I have yet to swatch the holos…been very unmotivated. Even with the new arrivals of nail polish, I feel a bit…meh about doing it. I get a bit tired of running it through Photoshop and maybe I shouldn’t watermark it, but something tells me to keep doing it whether I like it or not.

Anyway, this fabulous green glitter…where can I start? From the first stroke…well, first let me back pedal a moment: I am currently in the Bay Area and I know Wicked is closing in the beginning of September. I saw it back in May with my BFF Judi and the lyrics have been stuck in my head (interspersed with some Metallica, the Smiths, Madonna and the Dixie Chicks – don’t ask). Anyway, as I was putting this on this color, some lyrics from Wicked ran through my head:

“Have another drink, my dark-eyed beauty
I’ve got one more night left, here in town
So have another drink of green elixir
And we’ll have ourselves a little mixer
Have another swallow, little lady,
And follow me down…”

Ok, so for some reason, this color reminded me of the green elixir from Wicked. Yes, my dorkdom knows absolutely NO bounds. But for you Wicked fans (or stans) out there, I don’t think it’s much of a stretch, is it?

Formula: dried fast, but was pretty sheer. These are 3 coats of the color on my nail. I do like this and I will be wearing it for Halloween. Heck, forget Halloween…just going to start now. 😉

This color practically glowed in the shade. It was a bit mystical but oh so lovely.

The sun couldn’t even dim the glow.

Orly – Space Cadet

Monday, 23 August, 2010

I am the first to admit that it takes a lot to wow me…especially in the nail polish department. I rarely swoon. It’s just how I am. It’s not that I’m jaded, it’s just that I’m truly fortunate to be able to have a great collection. Plus, I’m a huge fan of cremes. If I ever turn my head on glitters or shimmers, it really has to be a stand out.

Fall 2010 is that collection for Orly…well, this one is – Space Cadet.

Where can I even begin? I was rendered speechless on the first coat. Then on the second? I just could not stop staring. The color change, the glitter, the glitz oh my!

The formula was really one that I think a lot of polishes should strive for if they’re going to do something like this – fast drying and easy to work with. I did 3 coats because I was really curious to see how it would look past 2 and it really was just flat out gorgeous. I didn’t need a third coat. It was like gilding the lily.

Ok, I’ll stop raving and just show you the mother lode of pictures I took.

Small note – I honestly thought that this was close to a Nubar shade called Wildlife…Wildlife is this awesome duochrome color that is gorgeous in and of itself and I felt that Space Cadet is the pumped up rocker chick sister version of it.

Pic spam commences…NAO!

What wasn’t conveyed in the sunlight shot was this freaking AWESOME play of black and pink/purple glitter. It was really hard to capture.

Nubar’s Wildlife is below – the shade shots of Space Cadet above is what made me think of this color.

OPI – Russian Collection

Friday, 20 August, 2010

Though only a handful of colors have been swatched and only had a flash photo, this is the collection still makes my heart sing a little…and makes me weep because it’s been discontinued. Although OPI pisses me off with their jacked up brushes and somewhat unstable formula, there is no denying that they did a world of wonder with these colors.

You can still find some of these colors, but not all, should you decide to go on a hunt for them. I will re-swatch these (along with the French Collection) with proper lighting. For now, settle for the indoor and flash only.

I rocked Russian Navy for so long that I have 3 – yes THREE – bottles of them.

China Glaze – Classic Camel

Tuesday, 17 August, 2010

This color was a real surprise…in a very good way.

I’m surprised it looked decent on me given it’s a fairly warm shade. China Glaze did a great job on this.

Formula was wonderful! Fast drying, opaque in two coats. Woo hoo. 🙂

This color is part of the Vintage Vixen collection from China Glaze for Fall 2010. Loved this color so much I’m giving this 3 pictures so you can fully appreciate it. It’s got a great gold shimmer through it that’s subtle but completely beefs up the color and keeps it from being totally dull. Wouldn’t you agree?

BB Couture – Daisy Dweller

Wednesday, 11 August, 2010

This shade is prime example of why I should never even attempt to wear yellow…yellow girls and yellow nail polish don’t mix. Let me be more specific, yellow girls who have my skin tone/shade really have no business wearing yellow polish of any kind. That’s my opinion.

I bought this (and I normally would never willingly buy yellow polish, by the way) because it was such a pretty yellow in the bottle. It still is. However, someway, somehow my skin tone has managed to mangle and make this color look so pathetically awful on me.

Formula: a bit on the runny side so I tried to make up for it to get an opaque shade…using 3 very heavy handed coats. It’s why you will see bubbling on the ring finger. Oops. My bad. I love how BB Couture’s polish dries quickly and this was no exception – barring my ring finger, of course. 😉

BB Couture – Signs of Spring

Wednesday, 4 August, 2010

Another BB Couture polish – yay! 🙂

I love shades of blue like this. This particular one is a creme with some very fine glitter in it thrown for good measure. I’ve received a bulk of nail polish from BB Couture and I find I am never really happy with their glitter polishes. I don’t know what it is and I can’t put my finger on it, but it bothers me. I don’t want to make them sound like amateurs, but I definitely prefer their cremes and their shimmers but not the glitter. Sorry for all the BB Couture fans out there. I don’t mean to upset you.

BB Couture – Horned Devil

I loved this color. In the bottle.

I complained about a color by China Glaze (Strawberry Fields) that aged me and freaked me out to no end because it really made me look like crazy old South Beach, FL, lady. This had a similar effect, but I felt it was Los Angeles, CA, old lady. I kid you not, I swear that this color brought out every single line and never-seen-before line out in my hands. My hands looked wrinkled. Decrepit. LEATHERY. Leathery. Seriously. How does that happen?

Pity the color sucked on me because application was flawless – it’s a jelly base flecked with fine silver glitter. The glitter isn’t so abundant that it overpowers the polish. It is distributed evenly with the brush strokes. I did two coats. See the pictures below!

I think the shade shot is much prettier than the sunlight. It got washed out. 🙁
