Dr Bombay, the greedy cat

Saturday, 4 December, 2010

We did a pit stop on the way home from running errands. Before we ran out again, we decided to put the cat’s food in the container we use for housing his kibble. Hubby had turned away for a moment to reprimand the dog for even trying to come close, but in reality, he should’ve kept his eye on heifer kitty.

Dr B knows good and well that the container holds his kibble…so he pretended to sniff, then proceeded to eat as fast as he could. Of course, I had to take a picture!

Greedy guilty cat is greedy guilty!

(But he is so darn kyoot…I heart my cross eyed kitty so)

Rescue Beauty Lounge and China Glaze – Sheer Red and Mrs. Claus

Friday, 3 December, 2010

It’s Friday Red! And the two reds I have chosen kind of rocks it.

I ordered Sheer Red by Rescue Beauty Lounge. I knew it was going to be sheer, but what I didn’t count on was exactly how sheer it would be. Not that that’s a bad thing. Don’t get me wrong. The formula for SR took a little longer to dry than I would have liked.

I thought the red was close to China Glaze’s Mrs. Claus, but without the glitter…I layered it over Sheer Red.

The base was similar that’s for sure. However, the base of MC is slightly more sheer than SR.

With my skin tone, SR ended up looking more pink on me. Not quite sure if I am liking the sheerness of it. This may be the one color by RBL that I’m not too fond of. 🙁

To see the enlarged original picture, click on the thumbnail and then click on the number in the phrase “Full size is blahblahblah x blahblahblah pixels.”

I like Mrs. Claus. The pink glitter shown isn’t looking as cool as it does in person. The pinkness doesn’t shine through. It’s really gorgeous in person.

Sunlight totally washed out the glitter, making it look silver. Very cool looking. I think I’d choose MC over SR for a holiday color.

Here is CG’s Mrs. Claus to refresh your memory.

More Dog Days of Rex

Thursday, 2 December, 2010

I wish the video were better quality, but here is one I snagged a few days ago from my iPhone. Pity it’s not as good as it looks on my phone, but the loudness is just as good, if not better, than the one I have.

I had taken him for a walk and he was so happy. He frolicked (and did doggy business #1 and #2) and made new friends.

When we got back to my parents house, I thought he’d be ready for a cookie. I hunted around and finally found one I thought was proportionate to the amount of walking we had done. I heard an odd noise coming from the pillow on which he sleeps…

…and this is where the handy iPhone came in.

Now if I can only get some videos of him when he’s scratching himself so hard he whimpers because he’s hurting himself. He is the world’s sweetest dog. Sometimes he’s not the brightest…but he’s all mine and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Chanel – Riva

Wednesday, 1 December, 2010

I was surprised with this color. Hubby got it for me and who am I to say no to a bottle of nail polish? 😀

I was happy to get a color like this. I had been in two minds and I couldn’t make it up – do I want it or don’t I want it? Then I got a confirmation email saying it was on the way…decision taken out of my hands.

However, had I known then what I do now, I’d have said, “Let me find a dupe and pass.” I’d have used the money towards purchasing some other polish.

First off, what a craptastic formula. Streaky and a total pain to work with. Not opaque after 3 coats. Took forever and a *beeep* day to dry. I wasn’t even going to try and do 4 coats because even after the first coat, I had BUBBLES. BUBBLES IN A FIRST COAT THAT WASN’T EVEN THICK. I’m beyond disappointed.

And Chanel had a gorgeous shimmer that was prevalent in the bottle…and barely noticeable in sunlight.

Skip this. Get something like OPI’s What’s With The Cattitude or Finger Paints’ Blissfully Blue and then slap some CND Nail Effect Sparkle on it.

Ok, I think you get how disappointed I am by this polish. On to the pictures. As always, keep clicking the image until you can click it no more and it is huge. Remember, these are just thumbnails. The overall details will be seen in the original size of the picture (ghetto hangnails and all!) – you will see the shimmer in the sunlight shot and the bubbles.

Nars – Midnight Express

Tuesday, 30 November, 2010

I didn’t expect this color to be so…luscious. I had anticipated this dark blue that would be almost black…and it is.

It’s beautiful.

Sadly, I couldn’t do it justice. I am so awful in application. See the VNL? Streaks! It dried quickly even with three coats.

Disappointment abounds…

Tuesday, 30 November, 2010

As some, all, or none of you know, OPI was/will be purchased by cosmetics giant Coty.

While it’s great for OPI and they’ve made a profit for themselves, it’s a big step backwards for me. I’m saddened and disappointed by this move. It was, after all, OPI that brought back my love of nail polish years ago with their French Collection.

While some people decry the move due to Coty’s policy on animal testing – they do test on animals, whether we like it or not – I, for one, find that OPI is no longer that cool, independent business I love supporting. I stuck through with OPI when they went after etailers, but I can’t support them in this. I’m saddened that OPI is no longer on my swatching list since it was OPI that I’ve loved back in the early 90s…and it was OPI that brought my love of nail polish back just a handful of years ago. I will swatch the last of my Swiss Collection and I will keep swatching some of their collections because it pre-dates the Coty purchase. The Katy Perry and Serena Williams lines being the last two I will do of OPI.

I didn’t make this decision lightly. I’m a huge fan of smaller businesses. While I’m glad OPI has made money for themselves and I certainly congratulate them on their success, I won’t be lining Coty’s pockets any time soon.

Take care, OPI. I’ll be loving your colors from afar when they’re under the Coty umbrella.

Nubar – Palisade

Monday, 29 November, 2010

Part of the Fortress Collection by Nubar, this shade of gray really wasn’t too flattering on me. 🙁 I am bummed because I love grays so much and almost all of them are epic fails on me. 🙁

This dried quickly and was opaque in 2 coats. Boo hoo that it didn’t look good on me, though.

The Dog Days of Rex and The Tale of Persnickity Cat Dr Bombay

Monday, 22 November, 2010

I rarely post pictures of my pets. I am not sure why I don’t, but I will remedy that now.

I wore my poor Rex out last week. Initially I had busted out with the flashlight in the hopes of enticing Dr Bombay out of a tiny cocoon of blankets he had made for himself in our bed, to no avail. He merely stared at me groggily.

Comfortable cat is comfortable…

Usually kitty gets marginally interested enough to pounce a few times, then decides if the activity is futile/worthwhile.

Rex, on the other hand, couldn’t get enough of chasing the flashlight beam on the floor. After half an hour, I was a little bored by waving it around and watching Rex happily yap after it. He did do a little protest whinge. I turned away for a moment to get a glass of water. I looked over my shoulder from the kitchen and the picture below is what I saw. Rexie zonked out. So zonked, he was hanging out of his basket and was snoring into the carpet. Awww….
