OPI – Black Shatter, Teenage Dream, Last Friday Night and Not Like the Movies

Monday, 24 January, 2011

I’m missing one of Katy Perry’s colors – The One That Got Away. I did buy it, I just totally forgot when I swatched. Ooops. My bad. I will do it by the end of the week.

This is one of the last collections I will show you from OPI. I’m not too keen on supporting indie companies that sell out. Good for OPI that they got $$, but bad for me because I won’t be purchasing new colors I see. Pity. Oh well. All the more money for other nail polish!

I think I will have to do a collection of OPI colors that were my favorites before they were purchased by Coty. This will be my eulogy, my obituary for them. Hm. I have to troll through my colors now! 🙂 Yay.

In the meantime, here are the colors I offer you…Behind the jump, of course!

When I saw Scrangie’s swatches of Teenage Dream (TD) and Last Friday Night (LFN), I was excited. I did two coats of both colors, but maybe I needed to do more. Leave it to my HELLA DARK skin tone to always wash out paler colors and make them look less than exciting. BOO! Bad skin tone. Bad skin tone. Anyway, I did TD on the pointer and middle finger and LFN on my pinkie and ring finger. I put Black Shatter over my pointer and ring finger. BS is a cool effect, but I’m not sure it’s one for me.

A long time ago Not Like the Movies would’ve wowed me. The blue-ish/grey-ish/green-ish tinge with a wonderful faint purple shimmer would’ve got my heart beating a little faster. Not so much this time around because I feel like this is the ghetto sister to Nubar’s Indigo Illusion. This is a bit of a poor imitation in my eyes. I’ll have to swatch IL and NTLTM next to each other and see.

I’m surprised OPI is putting out so many glitter colors when cremes (w/subtle shimmer) seem to be the ‘it’ format…(format, formula? you get what I mean?)
Pink with iridescent glitter would describe me perfectly when I was 12. I think these 2 glitter polishes are beautiful. I’m going to look for them both to see which I like best in person.

I saw that crackle might be making a comeback in NYLON magazine. Here’s the link if you’re curious. http://www.nylonmag.com/?section=article&parid=4803&rnd=ousq
I’m glad I can get a shatter color here instead of trying to get it sent from Australia. Maybe the shatter is a little juvenile? I like it though.

How did you find out about Coty buying OPI? I’m just curious if there is an industry mag or website that you read.

I don’t buy OPI very often but I did recently after I read on er, I’m a little embarrassed to admit this-dunno why- Glamour about the color. I thought it was really pretty and a nice color to wear for New Year’s Eve. I bought Tease-y Does It from the Burlesque collection. I think the iridescent tones will show better with a top coat. I was thinking about buying Seche Vite. Do you like that one?

      Hi, Molly!

I heard about Coty buying OPI from the Wall Street Journal. 😀 I’m a news lover by nature. Then I started hearing other bloggers talking about the buy out.

As for Seche Vite, it’s not my favorite. I’ll be the first to admit it. I dislike SV because it has Formaldehyde and I really smell it. I have a bottle of SV that is 3/4 full. I was using it a while ago but everytime I opened up the bottle I’d get a headache. In the end I figured out it was the top coat. I came across Poshe purely by accident and have been using it faithfully for the past 7 years or so.

I do have to agree with you on the shatter thing – it’s a bit too youthful. I don’t think I can carry it off and when I get back into the office job thing, I don’t want people taking me less seriously than they should for my polish colors. I may end up wearing a lot of neutrals and sheers. I used to do that way back in the day.

I am not a fan of glitter polishes. I hate them, but sometimes they’ve come in handy. I had a lot of China Glaze glitter polishes that I ended up sending to a good friend of mine because she loves the glitter. I mean *loves*. LOL I feel that this collection from Katy Perry is very youthful. Not that I’m youthful, but it’s not necessarily something I want on me, per se.

I’ll be taking photos of the last Katy Perry color if the sun is shining. The last one I have to do is called The One That Got Away. It’s very pretty and not as teenage as TD or LFN. It’s a bit more grown up. More mature. I hope you like it.

Thanks for stopping by and reading and commenting!

I’ve yet to see these in person; not sure if they sold out that quickly or haven’t arrived yet. I have other black crackles I’ve gotten in swaps but will probably pick up Black Shatter anyway if I can.
