China Glaze – Strawberry Fields

Tuesday, 25 May, 2010

For some inexplicable reason, I was completely enamored with this color when I saw it in the store. I had to have it.

I think secretly in my mind I had a vision where it would be this stunning pink with gold shimmer on me. The kind that was so flattering that people would stop me and ask, “What color *is* that? It looks so wonderful on you!”

Sadly, I was mistaken. It aged me. Yes, that is exactly what happened. It aged me. Made my hands look more like old lady than cool hip chick.

What a pity. It’s still a gorgeous color. I may reserve it for my toes, but even then I worry I’ll look like I’m 80, not 30-something.

See the pretty golden glitter in the shade shot? You can actually see the pool of gold glitter where it says Oz. on the bottle. The color looks much better in the shade than in the sunlight shot below. Sunlight just completely wiped it out.

Formula was so good – fast drying and only a 2 coater.

China Glaze – Channelesque

Thursday, 20 May, 2010

I found this in a clearance bin for $1.50. Had I known how truly and deeply I’d fall for this color, I’d have purchased all of them. Yea, I get kind of like that. I know that Channelesque has been discussed many a time, but I love how it looks on me.

China Glaze Holographic

Purple! (and a green)

Tuesday, 27 April, 2010

Not quite keeping up with my self induced promise of mostly green, I present PURPLE! I have more than 18 shades of purple polish between here and Arizona. The colors on this wheel are partially here, but mostly in our desert home.

It was a pain in the butt trying to take a pic of that color wheel and I realized I should’ve broken it up into 4 separate parts, but I was feeling kind of lazy and I hope that when you click on the pics, they become huge and you can see the difference in the colors.

You’ll find lots of shimmer, creme, a matte and a couple of holographics.  Enjoy!

The Promised Green!

What I love about this gorgeous green with a slight yellow undertone is that it has a gorgeous micro glitter that contains more green than gold. One has to literally have it up close and very personal to see it. My camera didn’t do it any justice in capturing the glitter. The very faint yellow in this (heck, it could’ve been the gold micro glitter come to think of it!) wasn’t very strong and didn’t look awful on me. Quite the opposite – it was very flattering! Another stellar choice on my part from BB Couture. This color is from their Men’s Collection. Love it.

China Glaze – Sour Apple and Electric Lilac

Thursday, 1 April, 2010

Surprise~ April Fool! Only fool here was me thinking these colors would rock it on my nail. Only saving grace for these? They dried quickly.

Yea. Hm. With a name like Electric Lilac, I expect you to be electric. And lilac. I wouldn’t quite call this lilac. I would venture to call this a light purple. Glitter was ok on it, but this wasn’t worth the few dollars I shelled out for it. Maybe I didn’t shake it enough. Nah, I know I did. This was the color at 3 coats. I wasn’t in the mood to go for 4.

When I put this on, I kept thinking, “Wow…delayed St. Patrick’s Day for me.” Flecks of green and gold glitter suspended in a not quite neon green jelly base. I think I’m getting too old and fussy for certain types of glitter. I can accept that. This didn’t wow me.

China Glaze – Grape Juice

Tuesday, 30 March, 2010

I found this gem amongst my many bottles of nail polish…and I remembered why I fell in love with it. In the bottle it’s a bit uninspiring, but on the nails…oh, baby! 🙂

Nice and spring-y, wouldn’t you agree? I love how it looks in the shade.

China Glaze – The Wizard of Oh Ahz Returns

Wednesday, 13 January, 2010

How funny that I am listening to the soundtrack for Wicked as I post swatches and a small write up of this collection…I slack. I swatched these last month, but am only getting round to putting them up.

Dorothy Who? – Indoors, luminescent light

Wow. It’s all I can say. I put this color on and I was absolutely speechless. I have never been a fan of glitter nail polishes. NEVER. But this. This…made me stare at my nails for a little bit. I mean…fascinated me while I took pictures. It’s a bit Dallas Cowboys blue for me, but it’s so damn beautiful. The pictures indoors and outdoors haven’t done this any type of justice.

Dorothy Who? – Outdoors, overcast day

C-C-Courage – This is a royal purple with a twist – glitter. I’d love to see this color without the glitter because I think it would be able to stand alone. It’s beautiful.

C-C-Courage – outdoors, gorgeous sunlight

Cowardly Lyin’ – Very interesting with a jelly yellow base. It’s a very odd cross for me because it’s almost like it was a primary yellow base with gold glitter thrown in to jazz it up and then they made it sheer when I thought it should be opaque.

Cowardly Lyin’ – Outdoors

Good Witch? – It didn’t go too well with my skin tone, but it’s definitely very pretty! 🙂

Good Witch? – outdoors

Ten Man – Indoors, luminescent lighting. Sheer and pretty. I thought it was similar to Tinsel from the Holiday collection, but it’s not. It’s also got a hint of white in it, but just enough to keep this silver. Diggin’ it!

Ten Man – outdoors

Ruby Pumps – Indoors, luminescent lighting with flash

Ruby Pumps – Outdoors, natural light

Overall I liked this collection, but I had issues, massive issues with C-C-Courage…it tended to bubble up far too quickly, even when I put on the thinnest of coats. Maybe it was just me and the formula I got. I even waited 15 minutes in between the first and second coat. To no avail, it still bubbled. Urgh. It also took a while to dry, but the results were still spectacular.

I am not a fan of frosty colors or glitters…so this comes as a surprise for me to like them. Pity Good Witch? and Cowardly Lyin’ didn’t go too well with my skin tone, but face it…I was never meant to wear yellow…and ya know what? I’m perfectly fine with that.

My favorite colors? Ruby Pumps, Dorothy Who? and C-C-Courage.
