Essie – It’s Genius

Monday, 7 March, 2011

I have had this color forever. Like almost two years before I even swatched it. I’m not quite sure why I sat on it for so long, but it seems I’ve got other colors I’ve yet to do as well…and they’re Essie colors to boot! What the heck?

Not a blue for this Monday because the sun is shining…no green, but that’s reserved for the rest of the week.

Essie – Shift Power

Monday, 28 February, 2011

I was going to do a blue for Monday, but I thought…why not do a gold? I was hunting for a blue in my 600+ nail polish stash, but came up gold! Plus, it’s a way to celebrate the win for my boy Colin Firth, too. I’ve had this insane crush on him ever since I saw Pride and Prejudice. He’s just that kind of awesome to me. Congrats, Colin Firth. It’s about f***ing time.

Essie – Hot Cocoa

Wednesday, 22 December, 2010

I love this color. I suck at application and I am still getting used to my new camera, so please pardon my lack of focusing skills and all around, “Please let me get used to this!” Growing pains and all that.

This color was fabulous!! I loved that it was a lovely mushroomy color; it reminds of that Hot Cocoa brown/purple when it’s all hot and steamy in my mug. I think I’m going to have to make some hot chocolate now.

This was a two coat application and I think it would’ve benefited greatly had I done three. I think it would’ve done it much justice. Despite my craptastic applications skills, this color still shines through.

Essie – Silken Cord

I have this love/hate relationship with Essie. I either love the color and the formula or I hate the color and the formula.

This was no exception because it fell into the LOVE category. Ok, the color doesn’t rock it on me. But who the heck cares? It’s a freaking gorgeous color and I really wish that it could have looked better with my skin tone.

Twice as great was the formula. It wasn’t thin, it wasn’t runny. It was just right. I also dried in a good time – 5 minutes between each coat. I wanted to give this some leeway. Color was opaque in two medium coats.

Essie – Going Incognito

Tuesday, 7 December, 2010

This green is…awesome. No other way to describe it. Opaque in two coats, even if you do see visible nail line thanks to my terrible application.

It dried in record time, which is always a good thing.

I like greens like this because it’s partially festive – it is part of Essie’s Holiday 2010 collection, after all! – and it’s also a color I can wear year round whenever I want a little bit of green in my life. I can add a pretty glitter top top coat, too! I’m thinking a certain NFU Oh will have to make an appearance.

Please pardon the rough look to the nails – I had been wearing this color for a few days to see how it would hold up…and it held up through the dish washing, the toilet scrubbing and all around roughery I put my poor hands through. Just minor tip wear!
