Orly – It’s Not Rocket Science

Pretty green polish with lovely green and gold shimmer…see below!

Formula, once again, rocked it. It dried fast and was looking good after 2 very thin coats. While it’s not Space Cadet, I do like this as well…

Putting your mind at ease – this is not an image heavy post like Space Cadet or the recent NFU Oh I swatched. 😀

Orly – Space Cadet

Monday, 23 August, 2010

I am the first to admit that it takes a lot to wow me…especially in the nail polish department. I rarely swoon. It’s just how I am. It’s not that I’m jaded, it’s just that I’m truly fortunate to be able to have a great collection. Plus, I’m a huge fan of cremes. If I ever turn my head on glitters or shimmers, it really has to be a stand out.

Fall 2010 is that collection for Orly…well, this one is – Space Cadet.

Where can I even begin? I was rendered speechless on the first coat. Then on the second? I just could not stop staring. The color change, the glitter, the glitz oh my!

The formula was really one that I think a lot of polishes should strive for if they’re going to do something like this – fast drying and easy to work with. I did 3 coats because I was really curious to see how it would look past 2 and it really was just flat out gorgeous. I didn’t need a third coat. It was like gilding the lily.

Ok, I’ll stop raving and just show you the mother lode of pictures I took.

Small note – I honestly thought that this was close to a Nubar shade called Wildlife…Wildlife is this awesome duochrome color that is gorgeous in and of itself and I felt that Space Cadet is the pumped up rocker chick sister version of it.

Pic spam commences…NAO!

What wasn’t conveyed in the sunlight shot was this freaking AWESOME play of black and pink/purple glitter. It was really hard to capture.

Nubar’s Wildlife is below – the shade shots of Space Cadet above is what made me think of this color.

China Glaze Holographic

Purple! (and a green)

Tuesday, 27 April, 2010

Not quite keeping up with my self induced promise of mostly green, I present PURPLE! I have more than 18 shades of purple polish between here and Arizona. The colors on this wheel are partially here, but mostly in our desert home.

It was a pain in the butt trying to take a pic of that color wheel and I realized I should’ve broken it up into 4 separate parts, but I was feeling kind of lazy and I hope that when you click on the pics, they become huge and you can see the difference in the colors.

You’ll find lots of shimmer, creme, a matte and a couple of holographics.  Enjoy!

The Promised Green!

What I love about this gorgeous green with a slight yellow undertone is that it has a gorgeous micro glitter that contains more green than gold. One has to literally have it up close and very personal to see it. My camera didn’t do it any justice in capturing the glitter. The very faint yellow in this (heck, it could’ve been the gold micro glitter come to think of it!) wasn’t very strong and didn’t look awful on me. Quite the opposite – it was very flattering! Another stellar choice on my part from BB Couture. This color is from their Men’s Collection. Love it.

Orly – Cashmere Cardigan

Orly Cashmere Cardigan

Ok, I’m wearing this right now…and am loving it. Hopefully I can keep it on for the weekend unless I get distracted by another color in my collection! Essie’s Shelter Island and OPI’s No Room For the Blues still keep calling me.

How pretty is this? LOVE IT!!! 🙂

Now I must wear Essie’s Angora Cardi on Monday…or tomorrow. 😉

Orly – Foil FX

Orly Luxe

Things that make me go SQUEEEEE…and when I saw this on my nails, I sure did that. 🙂

I’m currently wearing this on my nails – loving this shiny foil like effect!

Out of all the 3 Foil Fxes, this one flattered me the most and I loved it. I looked at it on me and the only thought that ran through my head was, “This reminds me of rose gold!”

It looked super futuristic on me, but I did like this…it reminded me of an old school Urban Decay I had about 15 years ago.

Not one my favorites…only because it’s too close to gold and I look awful in gold. Rose gold (I love it makes things have an antique-y feel to it!) is a bit cooler in tone so I find I tend to favor it than straight up yellow gold. When I looked at this color from a distance on me it really wasn’t very flattering for me.

Orly Spring II 2010

Orly Spring 2010 – Part II – Sweet

As always, click the thumbnails to see the bad cuticles up close. 😉

I’m not partial to pastels and I guess Orly had to put up some pastels because well, it’s spring and what is that season without pretty happy colors for me to throw up on?

I did have problems on most of them. I tried different base coats and they still had a tendency to be a bit chalky and unpredictable. All were 2 coats aside form Cotton Candy. I think I had a bunk bunch of bottles. Oh well. *shrugs*

Pixy Stix – Shade (L) and Sunlight (R)
Not quite as bright as some other pinks out there, but…it’s got a pretty darn close neon factor.

Cotton Candy – Shade (L) and Sun (R)
Dunno why, but I think ‘coral’ when I see this on me.

Gumdrop – Shade (L) and Sunlight (R)
I thought of China Glaze’s For Audrey when I put this on. Will amend post later to add in a comparison swatch

Lemonade – Shade (L) and Sunlight (R)
Just reaffirms my belief that I was never meant to wear pastel yellow OR yellow nail polish, period. Ever.

Lollipop – Shade (L) and Sunlight (R)
This reminds me of a lavender shade that’s been liberally doused with pink…

Snowcone – Shade (L) and Sunlight (R)
I thought it was a periwinkle color, but it’s more along the lines of a light turquoise.
