Chanel – Paradoxal – update

Friday, 13 August, 2010

I decided to try Paradoxal for a week…it was very hard for me to not change the colors. I had originally worn it because when we went to Texas, I wanted a super awesome color. It was super awesome – I got many compliments on it.

Less than 24 hours after putting on the polish, the color chipped on the right hand – the pinky and the ring finger. It was marginal chipping and I honestly believed that it would just get worse. I was concerned that I would have mega ghetto nails after 48 hours. Such was not the case.

I took the picture exactly one week after application. I like to think it was the awesome base coat that I used (Hello, Nubar!) and the top coat (Posche, fast drying) that helped contribute to the longevity of the manicure.

Not bad after 7 days, right? It could’ve been much, much worse.

Happy Friday! I had to end the week on a color that makes me happy…

I received this for my birthday after I played with it in Nordstrom a few weeks ago. I wanted this color. Seriously obsessed over this color. Thought I would DIE if I didn’t get this color. Was seriously going to maim the person closest to me if I didn’t get this color.

I got it and … this formula is perfect. Much better than previous Chanels. It didn’t bubble, it dried fast and…it’s so me. I’ve made no secret that my first true nail polish crush came about 15 years ago with Chanel’s Rouge Noir (aka Vamp) and Brown Sugar. I seriously could not get enough of those colors…and then they were discontinued.

Here we are again and I want to have a back up bottle of this shade…I am going to wear this until the bottle no longer has polish in it! This color is something that spoke to me and I hate the thought of spending $23 on a bottle of polish when I can purchase so many more brands that are historically better in their formulas than Chanel.

Ok, I’ll shut up and just show you the fabulousness of this color.

Chanel – Pirate

Tuesday, 13 July, 2010

This was found in my box of “Bathroom Junk” where I had also found Violette. I am doing my best to refrain from doing any pirate jokes. The name alone…really, I’m trying.

I shall focus on what a gorgeous red this is, even though it was a little hard to handle. It didn’t bubble like Violette (thank the heavens!) and it definitely dried faster as well. Unfortunately the color of the nail swatch you will see below has FOUR, yep 4, coats to achieve the color that matched the bottle. They were thin coats albeit because I was worried it was like Violette. No bubbles. Well, there were marginal bubbles, but not as bad as it could’ve been.

This is a gorgeous color, but I am sure there are dupes out there. It’s in my top 10 for favorite reds.

Chanel – Violette

Chanel Violette

Happy Sunday!

Whilst going through a moving box that was innocuously labeled “Bathroom Junk” from three years ago (shhh….), I discovered this little gem – Chanel’s Violette. Released in early 2000, I’d actually venture to say about 2003 since that was when we were living in Scotland and I know that this is where I purchased this color, I had high hopes for this to be a dupe of my infamous lemming/lust/must have/WILL KUT YOU FOR of Chanel’s Brown Sugar nail polish. Released about six months after Rouge Noir – the original – in 1994, I went nuts for it. Loved it so much I scrimped my pennies to share it with friends because I’d buy them a bottle for their birthday.

Brown Sugar is a polish I can definitely wax lyrical on for…well, ever. Four years ago I saw a bottle of Brown Sugar on eBay. I stopped bidding at $40. It ended up selling for $60. To this day, that is one of my true nail polish regrets. I would, in all honesty, trade in all my bottles of nail polish just so I can have a good bottle of Brown Sugar. That is how much I loved that color.

While Violette hits the spot, it’s like eating a banana when you really want chocolate – you get the potassium you wanted, but it’s not the flavor or texture that would send you into your own happy place.  There are also some very subtle differences – Brown Sugar was bit more beige-y, slightly mushroom-y and a tinge more purple. Violette is…well, more violet colored and a lot lighter. I felt Brown Sugar was truly the best neutral nail polish out there. It flattered all my friends’ skin tones.

All right, enough. I’ll stop. Here are the pics.

Formula on this was terrible! But I think this was one of the first bottles of 3 Free, but I could be wrong so don’t quote me on it. These were two thin coats with no top coat put on. It bubbled and I was immediately reminded why I had thrown this color into a box and conveniently forgot about it. My Brown Sugar never bubbled, but it took forever and a millennia to dry.

Chanel РGold Lam̩

Thursday, 3 June, 2010

Ok, I know I haven’t posted the pics for my nail tape n00b thing, but I do have a valid reason – I didn’t have my camera today. So you’ll have to settle for Chanel’s Gold Lamé instead. Tomorrow is when you can see how I was an epic fail for the Nubar Night Sparkles collection.

By nature, I abhor gold anything – jewelry, nail polish…you get the idea. Then I saw this…and had to have it. Go figure. Don’t know why I had to have it. Like I was going to stab someone if I didn’t have it kind of thing.

Now that I have it I go, “Oh. Can I have my money back?”

It was a lot more sheer than I expected it to be. It bubbled up on me because I did 4 coats. I gave up when I saw it bubbling. It took forever to dry in between coats. I took it off right after I swatched it. How sad. 🙁 Anyway, sadness below.
